This is how a small business is supposed to work: client shares holiday card with co-worker. Co-worker is like “Wow, you guys look really great – who took these pictures?” Days later, co-worker calls and purchases a gift certificate for a family session as a present to his wife. A few weeks later, new clients and I meet to discuss their upcoming session, envisaging a pleasant afternoon in front of colorful azaleas with a first hint of spring warmth in the air. A couple of weeks later, a pandemic hits and shuts everything down … Well, that last part wasn’t planned.

Instead of our spring session, this wonderful family and I ended up meeting very early this past Sunday morning at Glen Echo Park in Maryland in a (mildly successful) effort to beat the punishing temperatures and excessive humidity we all know and love so well. Special kudos to two really sweet college kids who were ready to rock at 7:30 am. (Three, really, if you count my son who accompanied me to be my trusty caddy). It has been the second time I’ve shot at Glen Echo this summer, and I quite like its retro feel and the variety of backdrops and lighting it offers within just a few steps. (I also think that Brian has a future in eye glass advertisements).
