This epic Tidal Basin session was the result of lots of meticulous planning, from scanning the ever changing cherry blossom forecast, obtaining NPS photo permits (a tediously bureaucratic process stuck in the 20th century – but that’s a whole other story), hotel reservations, very early alarms, sunrise hair and make-up artists, & supportive husbands playing taxi for pre-dawn drop-offs at the MLK Memorial in (literally) freezing temperatures. So while the images may suggest a casual walk around the Tidal Basin on a beautiful sunny morning, the amount of prep that goes into such a session is easy to underestimate. Add to that the thousands of tourists and dozens of other photographers crowded around the basin, and the word “insanity” might enter your mind.
But boy, was it ever worth it. Thank you to this beautiful Maryland High School Senior for showing up and persevering through all the obstacles, especially the insane cold she had to endure. I’m so excited to share some of my favorites from this memorable session.
